Actor and theatre director Moirangthem Prasanta Singh (38), from Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, Imphal East, who has been actively working in Manipuri theatre, is currently battling kidney failure in both kidneys. As his condition has become critical, the Like Minded Group (LMG) Manipur Executive Council extended support by providing financial assistance of ₹20,000 to his wife Nepram Ningol Moirangthem (Ongbi) Dhanapati to help with his medical expenses on Sunday.
The assistance was handed over personally by LMG President L. Kunjeshwar Sharma along with Secretary Ojit Sorokhaibam, Finance Secretary Kunjeshwar Mangsatabam, Publicity Secretary Rakesh Naorem, and Assistant Secretary Surendro Ningombam.
Group members Surjit Ngangom, Boinao Maibam, Joykumar Thokchom, Mohen Ingudam, Joychandra Heikrujam, Premala Thounaojam, and Umabati Irengbam also took part in supporting the initiative.
Moirangthem Prasanta, who is also one of the directors of Khangjeng Repertory Theatre, is currently undergoing kidney treatment at PGI Chandigarh. He is the father of two children, and due to his deteriorating health, his family has been facing severe financial hardship. His wife Dhanapati has been making every possible effort to support his treatment, and LMG’s contribution has provided much-needed relief and encouragement.
During the assistance programme, LMG Secretary Ojit Sorokhaibam expressed that art and culture have been an essential pillar of Manipuri society, and artists like Moirangthem Prasanta have contributed greatly through their dedication and creativity. “Hearing about his health condition deeply saddened us. In times like these, it is our collective duty to stand by our artists and show solidarity. This small contribution of ₹20,000 is a gesture of our love and support,” he said.
He further added that there is no established welfare system for artists in Manipur. They continue to work passionately despite many hardships. “Whenever an artist faces difficulties, fellow artists must come together and extend help. We appeal to the public to also support our artists in need,” he mentioned.
