Unable to bear the state government’s neglect in repairing the road that serves as a lifeline for people residing between Napet Palli under Lamlai AC and Thoubal Dam under Andro AC, local truck drivers along with residents voluntarily undertook the repairing works.
The 20-km long road repairing activities were carried out by the Moirang Purel Area Local Truck Drivers’ Union (MPALTDU), strongly backed by local residents. The road, which had long fallen into disrepair due to heavy truck movement carrying stone and sand, was reportedly restored using around 250 trucks, excavators, and other machinery.
Locals joined hands with the drivers’ union to lay stone gravel along the damaged sections, ensuring smoother passage for transport vehicles. Despite being a crucial route for the construction sector, residents alleged that the state government had consistently failed to address the road’s poor condition, forcing community-led initiatives year after year.
Union Secretary Dewal Takhellambam told reporters that for the past decade, drivers themselves had been repairing the road twice annually to keep transportation uninterrupted. He thanked the community for their unwavering support while expressing frustration over the government’s indifference to such an important lifeline.
