Irate locals from Phubala and surrounding areas in Bishnupur District took to the streets in protest and imposed a flash road block after a sexagenarian local farmer was hit by a bullet fired from suspected Kuki areas this afternoon.
The locals, led by womenfolk, also blocked commuters and vented anger and fear over such attacks targeting Meiteis, which have been witnessed in the past.
The incident occurred around 3:15 PM, and the injured has been identified as Ningthoujam Biren.
Locals also informed that there have been similar incidents in the past, where suspected Kuki militants attacked the area from hilltops while farmers were working in the fields.
