Moirangthem Asnikumar Singh, Chairman of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA), called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan today to discuss the ongoing conservation efforts for Loktak Lake.
Asnikumar provided an update on the steps being taken to restore the ecological balance of the lake, emphasizing the importance of conserving the lake and its associated wetlands. He informed the Governor about efforts to preserve the lake’s catchment areas and its diverse flora and fauna.
Highlighting the challenge posed by the deterioration of the lake’s tributary streams, Asnikumar noted that out of the 36 streams that flow into Loktak Lake, seven have already become extinct, while the remaining are highly polluted. He stated that detailed project reports (DPRs) have been submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for approval, with the goal of rejuvenating these critical streams.
Asnikumar underscored the significance of community participation in the process of ecological restoration, which is essential for the successful conservation of Loktak Lake.
Governor Bhalla appreciated the efforts of the Loktak Development Authority in preserving the lake and encouraged the Chairman to continue their dedicated work toward its rejuvenation.
