Loktak Lake Can Become a Model of Sustainable Livelihood if Community Leads: Thanga MLA Robindro

December 30, 2025 : Calling for collective responsibility to protect Loktak Lake while strengthening local livelihoods, Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro today said community-driven initiatives are the key to ensuring sustainable fisheries and economic security for lake-dependent families.

He was speaking at the launching-cum-training programme of the project “Sustainable Livelihoods through Community-Driven Fisheries in the Loktak Lake Ecosystem,” held at his residence in Kairenphabi, Bishnupur District this afternoon in the presence of local elders and citizens.

The MLA said the project reflects a people-centric approach where traditional knowledge and scientific support must go hand in hand to revive the lake’s ecology and improve income opportunities for fishermen.

He expressed gratitude to ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR) and ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ukhrul, under ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, under the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, for initiating the venture, and urged beneficiaries to actively participate to make the programme a long-term success.
