Major Arms Haul in Imphal East: Security Forces Recover Deadly Cache in Pre-Dawn Operation

In a major breakthrough against suspected militant activity, a joint security team recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during a pre-dawn operation at Natum Ching, Sanasabi under Imphal East district. The operation, which commenced at around 4:30 AM on Sunday, was launched based on specific intelligence input indicating that unknown armed miscreants had concealed explosive materials and weaponry in the area.

The coordinated operation was led by Inspector Yangmi Hashunao Shimray, Officer-in-Charge of Yaingangpokpi Police Station. The team comprised personnel from Yaingangpokpi Police, one section of 4 MAHAR (BORDERS) under the command of Lt Col Vipin Dhillon, one section each from A/189 Battalion CRPF, B/69 Battalion BSF, and E/119 Battalion BSF, as well as Special Commando units and MR/IRB.

After nearly four hours of intensive search, the team successfully recovered a range of deadly weapons and explosive materials. The recoveries included three hand grenades (36 type), eight detonators, and four tube launchers of varying sizes—two measuring 3 feet 5 inches, one measuring 2 feet, and one measuring 1 foot 11 inches. Also recovered were four rubber bullets, one 84 mm illuminating para bomb, one empty 81 mm para bomb, and one magazine of an INSAS light machine gun.

In addition, the team recovered two bulletproof jacket plates, one bulletproof jacket, one metal inner barrel marked MK-IV, fifteen live rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition, and thirty empty cases of 7.62 mm SLR ammunition.
