Thoubal, Nov 22: A joint team of forest officials from the Thoubal Forest Range and Kakching Forest Range carried out an enforcement drive on Saturday to seize illegal bird-trapping nets within areas falling under the Thoubal Forest Range.
The operation, conducted under the supervision of DFO Thoubal, Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee, was led by Range Officers Dineschandra Salam and Sundar Huidrom. According to sources, the team confiscated around 80 bird-trapping nets from the Lilong Nganglou Loukol area alone.
The Forest Department has urged the public to refrain from trapping and trading birds, warning that such activities are punishable under the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Authorities have further appealed to citizens to report any information related to bird trapping or illegal wildlife trade to the nearest forest office.
