Major Mock Drill Conducted Under ‘Operation Abhyas’ at CC Higher Secondary School

A large-scale mock drill under “Operation Abhyas” was conducted today at CC Higher Secondary School, led by Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Nivedita Lairenlakpam, to assess emergency preparedness in the event of air raids and disasters.

The simulated drill involved coordinated participation from multiple departments, including Civil Defence, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Service, Manipur Police, and medical teams. The exercise featured rescue operations, mock evacuations, fire control, and the setting up of temporary medical aid camps to ensure rapid response readiness.

The event aimed to strengthen inter-agency coordination and raise public awareness about safety protocols during emergencies.

Speaking to media after the drill, DC Nivedita Lairenlakpam said, “Today’s mock drill was conducted under the nationwide initiative ‘Operation Abhyas’. In Imphal East, we organized it with multiple stakeholders including Civil Defence, Police, Red Cross, and local women leaders (Maira Paibis), who play a critical role in any eventuality. The Red Cross has been actively contributing in both natural and artificial disasters across Manipur.”

“We’ve received positive feedback from the public, many of whom have urged that such drills be conducted more frequently. Emergencies do not come with prior notice, so it’s essential that we, as citizens, remain alert and prepared at all times. This is not the final drill, we will continue these exercises in other parts of the district, including subdivisions,” she added.

The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the district administration will recommend the inclusion of basic first aid training in school curriculums through the Education Department, noting that “every individual should possess basic first aid knowledge.”
