Man Held in Manipur for Smuggling ₹37 Lakh Worth of Peacock Feathers to Myanmar

In a significant crackdown on illegal wildlife trade, Manipur Police arrested one individual, identified as Md. Sharifuddin (24) of Moreh Ward No. 5, Muslim Nagar Laibuk Leikai, for attempting to smuggle peacock feather shafts to Myanmar without valid documentation.

The arrest was made near the Pallel Police Station gate area in Kakching District by a team of Manipur Police. Acting on credible intelligence, the police intercepted Sharifuddin and seized a consignment comprising 72,000 peacock feather shafts, weighing approximately 142 kg, packed in four plastic sacks (18 bundles each). The estimated value of the seized feathers in the international market is around ₹37 lakh.

In addition to the feathers, one four-wheeler used for transportation was also seized during the operation. The accused is now in police custody and further investigation is underway to trace the network behind the smuggling.
