Mangka Mayanglambam Discusses Preservation of Indigenous Arts, Seeks GI Tag for Pena

Noted folk artist Mangka Mayanglambam of Laihui, accompanied by six members of the group, called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, to discuss the promotion and preservation of Manipur’s indigenous music and performing arts.

During the interaction, Mangka briefed the Governor on Laihui’s ongoing activities, particularly its work in reviving and promoting the Pena, a traditional Manipuri string instrument that symbolizes the state’s cultural identity. She also emphasized the importance of obtaining a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the Pena to ensure its recognition and protection.

Mangka further sought the Governor’s support in nurturing young artists to continue the legacy of Manipur’s folk traditions. The Governor appreciated Laihui’s initiatives and encouraged their continued efforts to safeguard and promote the state’s rich artistic heritage.
