The Government of Manipur has announced the adoption of two crucial Central Government Office Memorandums pertaining to paid leave, aimed at supporting working women and single male employees with minor children. The decision was formalised during a recent sitting of the “Governor-in-Council” on 24th April, 2025.
According to the first Office Memorandum, eligible women employees and single male employees with minor children will now be granted Child Care Leave (CCL) for a maximum period of 730 days during their entire service. This leave can be utilised for the care of their eldest surviving children, covering needs such as rearing, examinations, and sickness.
The second memorandum, dated September 2, 2022, introduces a 60-day Special Maternity Leave (SML) in cases of stillbirth or the unfortunate death of a child soon after birth. This provision aims to provide necessary support to female employees during times of emotional distress and physical recovery, ensuring they receive appropriate leave without concerns about pay or job security.
Commissioner (Finance) N. Ashok Kumar, in a press release, emphasised that these measures highlighted the state government’s commitment to aligning with national policies that promote gender equality and support the dual responsibilities of employees as professionals and caregivers.
By adopting these provisions, Manipur aims to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment for its employees.
