Manipur Adopts Stringent Process on Issue of Adult Aadhaar, To Be Cross-Checked Before Issue

Manipur has adopted the most stringent process in the country for issuing adult Aadhaar cards to ensure that no illegal foreigners can obtain it. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held at Raj Bhawan, Imphal, on Tuesday, during which Manipur Governor A.K. Bhalla also reviewed Aadhaar enrolment, up-dation, and related services in the state. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary and senior officers from the Home Department, UIDAI, Social Welfare, and Education Departments.

The process will be based on MHA and UIDAI guidelines. Each case of adult Aadhaar issuance must be mandatorily scrutinized and approved only at the State HQ level in the office of the Special Secretary, Home.

Two mandatory updates have been implemented for biometric and biographic data: Mandatory Biometric Updation-1 (MBU-1) between the ages of 5-7, and MBU-2 after reaching age 15, to keep Aadhaar active. These mandatory updates are done without any charges to the individuals.

These processes ensure that Aadhaar holders’ information remains current and secure, preventing misuse of identity. Updating biometric data enhances security and provides seamless access to government and financial services without authentication issues.
