After the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) admitted in court that it could not establish the authenticity of the audio tape implicating the former Manipur CM, the Supreme Court on Monday directed that the tape be sent to the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Ahmedabad for examination.
The Court has also instructed the NFSU to submit its findings in a sealed cover before November 9, 2025. Earlier, on January 16, the Court had criticized the CFSL, stating that its exercise was misdirected, as the court had asked to verify the voice in the tape with the admitted voice sample.
Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR), also demanded a court-monitored SIT probe, citing a Truth Labs forensic report that found a 93% probability that the voice belonged to Singh.
The Manipur government and the Centre, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, have dismissed the tapes as “doctored,” questioning the credibility of Truth Labs.
