Manipur Boys and Girls Clinch Quad Golds in Sepak Takraw, Take Tally to Five Golds

Ranchi, March 26: Manipur capped a dominant campaign at the 28th Sub-Junior Championship 2026 in Ranchi with both boys’ and girls’ teams winning gold medals in the Sepak Takraw Quad events on Wednesday, taking the state’s total medal tally to five golds and one bronze.

In the boys’ Quad event, Manipur displayed complete dominance throughout the tournament. In the league stage, the team defeated Uttarakhand (15–10, 15–4), West Bengal (15–9, 15–9), Goa (15–6, 15–6), Jharkhand (15–0, 15–8), Haryana (15–12, 15–7), and Kerala (15–4, 15–6). Continuing their strong run, Manipur beat Maharashtra (15–9, 15–5) in the quarter-final and Bihar (15–5, 15–11) in the semi-final. In the final, the boys once again faced Haryana and secured the gold medal with a convincing 2–0 victory, winning 15–12 and 15–7.

The girls’ team also delivered an equally impressive performance. During the league stage, Manipur registered wins against Meghalaya (walkover), Goa (15–5, 15–8), Uttarakhand (walkover), Karnataka (15–5, 15–0), Bihar (15–1, 15–3), and Madhya Pradesh (15–3, 15–10). The team continued its unbeaten streak by defeating Kerala (15–5, 15–10) in the quarter-final and Assam (15–11, 15–4) in the semi-final. In the final, Manipur overcame Nagaland in straight sets, winning 15–6 and 15–5 to clinch the gold medal.

These victories added to Manipur’s consistent success throughout the tournament. The state had earlier secured two gold medals in the team events on March 24, followed by a gold for the girls and a bronze for the boys in the Regu event on March 25.

Reacting to the achievement, the All Manipur Sepak Takraw Association (AMSTA) congratulated the players and coaching staff, stating that the results reflect disciplined preparation, teamwork, and strong grassroots development of the sport in the state.

The association further informed that the medal-winning teams will be accorded a formal reception on their return, as a mark of appreciation for bringing laurels to the state and inspiring young athletes.
