Manipur Celebrates Mera Hou Chongba, Festival of Hill-Valley Unity and Brotherhood

The people of Manipur today celebrated Mera Hou Chongba, the age-old festival that symbolizes unity and brotherhood between the hill and valley communities. The grand celebration brought together diverse ethnic groups at the Sana Konung (Royal Palace) and later at the Kangla Fort in Imphal.

Village chiefs and community representatives from the hill districts arrived at the Royal Palace early in the morning, where they were received by Leishemba Sanajaoba, Titular King of Manipur and Lok Sabha MP. The event featured traditional rituals and the exchange of symbolic gifts, signifying the bond of friendship between the hills and the valley.

In his media brief, Leishemba Sanajaoba highlighted that the festival stands as a true reflection of harmony and togetherness among all communities of Manipur, urging everyone to continue nurturing peace and mutual respect across the state.

Later, the festival procession moved to the historic Kangla Fort, where cultural dances, folk songs, and traditional performances by both hill and valley groups showcased the state’s shared heritage and spirit of unity.

Participants from the hill districts expressed their collective hope for enduring peace and reconciliation, emphasizing that festivals like Mera Hou Chongba play a vital role in rebuilding trust and strengthening bonds among all communities.

They reiterated that mutual understanding, respect, and dialogue are essential to ensure lasting harmony and progress in the state.

The celebration once again underscored Manipur’s enduring tradition of unity, a reminder that despite challenges, the people remain bound by their common desire for peace and brotherhood.
