Senapati, April 10: A series of infrastructure and welfare initiatives were rolled out in Senapati on Friday, with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh inaugurating key projects and laying foundation stones aimed at strengthening development in the region.
Among the major projects launched were a multi-level parking facility and an inter-state and inter-district agriculture and economic transportation hub with a capacity of 147 vehicles, expected to improve connectivity and streamline trade. The Chief Minister also inaugurated multi-purpose community buildings at Khabaduikung and Sangkumei villages, while laying the foundation stones for 69 Anganwadi centres under the SASCI initiative.
The programme later transitioned into a public reception held at the multipurpose hall in Senapati headquarters, where the Chief Minister was welcomed by civil society organisations, including the Naga Peoples’ Organisation, Senapati District Women’s Association, and Senapati District Students’ Association, along with other groups.
Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and MLAs Awangbow Newmai, Tongbram Robindro Singh, and J. Kumo Sha attended the event along with officials.
The reception began on a solemn note with a prayer led by Fr. Dr. William Nepuni, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of two children killed in the recent blast at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasised that development in districts like Senapati is essential for the overall progress of Manipur. He also acknowledged the role of local communities in maintaining peace and stability across the state.
On the return journey to Imphal, the Chief Minister made a brief stop at Hengbung in Kangpokpi district, where he met Saitu constituency MLA Haokholet Kipgen.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he stated that ensuring peace, stability, and inclusive development across all regions remains a top priority.
