FEB 21, 2026 (NEW DELHI): Manipur CM Y. Khemchand, accompanied by BJP MLA T. Robindro, bid their final teary adieu to their colleague, MLA Vungzagin Valte, who passed away after battling the wounds inflicted upon him during Manipur’s conflict.
“As Manipuris, as Manipurians, we should all belong to Manipur State… And at least one day, they will all come together…,” the hopeful words of peace and unity spoken by MLA Vungzagin Valte now linger everywhere he spoke. These words were shared in two separate media interviews, even while he was battling his wounds and enduring the severest pain inflicted upon him.
Soon after his arrival in Delhi, the Manipur CM headed straight to the hospital from the airport and met the bereaved family, including the eldest son of the departed leader. CM Khemchand paid homage with deep sorrow and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. He described the late MLA as a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the welfare and development of the people of Thanlon AC. His passing is considered a great loss not only to Thanlon but also to the entire State of Manipur.
MLA Vungzagin Valte, a three-time MLA from Thanlon AC of Pherzawl district, breathed his last at Medanta Medicity Hospital in Gurugram, New Delhi. He had been undergoing treatment since the May 2023 attack, after he was seriously injured and left crippled during the Manipur ethnic violence that broke out on May 3, 2023.
