Manipur Congress Leader Slams PR in State, Demands Action Against Officials Responsible for Unrest

The Former CM and opposition CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh has opined that the PR in the state has considerably failed to bring peace and maintain law and order in the state, and even the constitutional head of the state, the Manipur Governor, was compelled to take an air route for only 7 km from Imphal Airport to reach Raj Bhawan to avoid mass protests erupting in the street.

Lashing out at the central government, particularly the PM and Union Home Ministry, Ibobi said the state is directly under central rule and the Governor’s air commute is a “visible and shameful indication of complete administrative failure,” Okram Ibobi stated on Tuesday at Congress Bhawan after the observance function of the 61st death anniversary of India’s 1st PM Jawaharlal Nehru here in Imphal.

And speaking on the current unrest, the CLP leader also said the officials who ordered the removal of the state entity from the MST should be held responsible for the unrest and people’s movement to uphold the state integrity, and the Congress will never compromise the state integrity, and the Government of India should clearly say whether Manipur is not part of India.

The Congress leader also demanded that those responsible should come out in the open and issue a public apology to the people of Manipur, and Ibobi alleged that such an order could only have come from the highest levels of administration, namely the Governor, DGP, Chief Secretary, or the Security Advisor.

Speaking to a media person at the event, Ibobi also criticized the BJP and its allies for failing to form a popular government in Manipur despite having enough numbers. He said they may have the numbers, but they clearly lack the courage and credibility to lead, adding that this ongoing President’s Rule has failed Manipur.

Today’s event was attended by party leaders, office bearers, PCC members, frontal organizations, and other Congress supporters. They paid floral tributes and recalled Nehru’s legacy as the visionary architect of modern India and a tireless advocate for democracy, secularism, and scientific temper.
