Statewide Plastic Ban to Be Enforced from April 15

In a bold and eco-conscious move, the Manipur government is all set to enforce a complete ban on plastic products across the state from April 15, 2025. This initiative aims to tackle pressing environmental concerns and promote sustainable living among the people of Manipur.

To prepare the public for this sweeping change, a statewide awareness campaign will kick off on April 7, reaching both urban centers and remote villages. The Environment and Climate Change Department will spearhead the campaign, working in close coordination with the Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) and the Manipur Pollution Control Board.

Addressing stakeholders during a consultative meeting held at Imphal Hotel, A.K. Sinha, Principal Secretary of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility. “This is not just a government initiative. We urge every citizen to actively participate and support this effort for a cleaner, greener Manipur,” he said.

To ensure compliance, the state will impose fines ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000, based on the volume of plastic seized and the frequency of violations. Repeat offenders can expect steeper penalties.

With the clock ticking down to April 15, officials are urging the public to make the switch to eco-friendly alternatives and help set a new standard for environmental responsibility in the Northeast.
