Senior BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in this evening as the Chief Minister of Manipur at Lok Bhavan in Imphal, marking the formal return of elected governance in the state after nearly one year under President’s Rule.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony held around 6 PM, attended by BJP legislators, senior party functionaries, and leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The swearing-in followed the Government of India’s notification earlier today revoking President’s Rule, which had been in force since February 2025 after mass unrest and political instability gripped the state.
In a move underlining ethnic and regional representation, the newly formed cabinet includes multiple Deputy Chief Ministers and ministers drawn from both ruling partners and allied parties.
Key Office Bearers Sworn In
Yumnam Khemchand Singh, MLA from Singjamei Assembly Constituency, has assumed office as the Chief Minister of Manipur, bringing with him senior BJP leadership experience and a focus on stability, peace, and development. Nemcha Kipgen of Kangpokpi AC was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister virtually from Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi, ensuring key representation in the state’s leadership. Losii Dikho, MLA from Mao AC and a leader of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), also took the oath as Deputy Chief Minister, reflecting broader regional inclusion. Govindas Konthoujam of Bishnupur AC has been inducted as a minister from the BJP, adding legislative experience to the cabinet. Kh. Loken, MLA from Wangoi AC, joined the ministry representing the National People’s Party (NPP), strengthening the coalition framework of the government.
In his first public address after taking the oath, Chief Minister Khemchand expressed gratitude to the electorate and outlined his commitment to restoring normalcy and accelerating socio-economic progress across Manipur’s varied regions.
Senior party officials said the government would work towards rebuilding trust among communities and ensuring that the state’s governance reflects the aspirations of all groups.
