The Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla interacted with candidates selected under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) programme at Lok Bhavan, Imphal, on Thursday. The interaction included candidates and their parents from various districts of the state.
Participants came from Ukhrul, Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Churachandpur, including one internally displaced person. The candidates have successfully cleared the Japanese language examination and skill proficiency tests and are set to take up employment in Japan in sectors such as nursing, hospitality, and manufacturing.
The SSW programme, introduced by the Government of Japan in April 2019, allows foreign workers to live and work in Japan under a special residency status. India and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for implementing the programme in January 2021.
During the meeting, it was informed that 13 candidates have received approval for the Certificate of Eligibility and are scheduled to travel to Japan later this month. The candidates shared their enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity.
The Governor conveyed best wishes to the candidates and expressed confidence that they would perform well, uphold the cultural values of Manipur and India, and act as goodwill representatives while working abroad.
