Manipur Governor Pays Tribute to Assam Rifles Jawans Killed in Bishnupur Ambush

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday paid homage to Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap, the two Assam Rifles personnel killed in an ambush by unknown armed attackers at Nambol Sabal Leikai, Bishnupur district, on September 19. The attack also left five others injured.

The solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the IGAR (South) Headquarters, Mantripukhri, where the Governor, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, 3 Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Abhijit S. Pendharkar (AVSM, YSM), IGAR (South) Maj. Gen. Ravroop Singh (YSM, SM), ADGP Manipur Police Ashutosh Sinha, along with senior officers of the Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, and officials of the State Government, paid their respects.

Assam Rifles personnel draped the coffins with the Indian National Tricolor while uniformed officers stood in salute, marking a collective tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the jawans.

The tragic ambush took place on September 19 around 5:50 pm, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a Tata 407 vehicle carrying personnel of the 33 Assam Rifles while they were traveling from Imphal to Bishnupur. The attack resulted in the deaths of Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung (58) from Nepal and Rifleman (GD) Ranjit Singh Kashyap (29) from Chhattisgarh, while five others sustained injuries.

The ceremony underscored the commitment of security forces and the state government to honour the sacrifice of fallen personnel and to reinforce vigilance across sensitive and vulnerable areas.
