Jan. 25, 2025: Invigorating the ‘War on Drugs’ in the state, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh incinerated 314.4 kg of drugs, including various narcotics and psychotropic substances, on Saturday at Lamdeng in Imphal West District.
Various types of drugs, including 10 kg of heroin, methamphetamine tablets, and other narcotic drugs, were disposed of at Shija Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility in Lamdeng. The event was organised by the Manipur Police Department, and the drugs were seized by the police.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that the state government launched the ‘War on Drugs’ in 2018 under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah’s vision for a Nasha Mukt Bharat. The government has been waging a relentless war against drugs, and since 2017, over 1,000 acres of poppy plantations in the hill areas have been destroyed. Drugs worth Rs. 7,000 crores have been seized and destroyed, and around 200 people have been convicted.
The event was also attended by high-ranking officials of the Manipur Police, including Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh, IGPs, and NAB SP W. Basu.
