An appeal for widespread public support and participation in the Sangai Festival 2025, scheduled from November 21 to 30, was issued today by the Government of Manipur.
The festival has been described as a cultural and economic platform envisioned to reinforce peace, unity, and economic revival in the state, according to the appeal issued by the Chief Secretary.
It was stated that the festival is being organised as a collective affirmation of Manipur’s resilience, with citizens in general, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in particular, being called upon to extend cooperation for the successful conduct of the event.
Emphasis was laid on the festival’s role in tourism promotion, youth empowerment, and community harmony, identified as crucial pillars for bringing the state back to a sustained growth trajectory.
It was highlighted that the hardships faced by citizens, especially the IDPs, continue to be recognised as the State Government’s highest priority.
It was informed that around Rs. 18 crore per month is currently being spent on monetary assistance and relief camp management.
A total of Rs. 523 crore provided under a Special Relief Package by the Government of India was also mentioned, with allocations including Rs. 180 crore for house restoration and Rs. 250 crore for public assets such as health centres, water supply, schools, and community halls in resettlement areas.
While reiterating that IDP relief and rehabilitation remain top priorities, it was conveyed that the Sangai Festival is also being viewed as an essential step toward economic acceleration.
The event is expected to provide crucial market linkages for local artisans, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, and farmers, in addition to boosting trade, investment, and employment opportunities.
By showcasing the state’s art, culture, indigenous sports, and tourism potential, the festival is projected to help rebuild Manipur’s image at the national and international levels and present it as a safe and vibrant destination.
It was assured that the government remains open to discussions, representations, and constructive criticism from any individual or organisation, underscoring the importance of engagement for resolving issues.
An earnest appeal was made to the people of Manipur to participate in the Sangai Festival 2025 with enthusiasm.
