A one-day media workshop on Manipur’s tourism prospects has underlined the state’s immense potential for becoming a major tourism destination in the North East.
Speaking at the event organised jointly by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Directorate of Tourism, Government of Manipur, Tourism Director Lourembam Bikram Singh asserted that Manipur is one of the states with the highest tourism potential in the region.

The inaugural session was attended by Tourism Director L. Bikram Singh, DIPR Director Ngangom Uttam Singh, and Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) President Khogendra Khomdram.
Highlighting the richness of Manipur’s natural and cultural resources, Bikram Singh stated that the state holds as many as 135 tourist locations, including prominent attractions like Loktak Lake, Sendra, and Keibul Lamjao National Park.
He appealed for collective support for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival 2025, scheduled to be held from November 21 to 30, describing it as a “festival of celebration” that will introduce Manipur’s unique cultural identity to the world.
He stressed that tourism development should not be left only to the government but must involve civil society organisations, clubs, and community participation.
Sharing expert insights during the technical session, Babina Group of Companies Chairman Dr. Thangjam Dhabali spoke on tourism industry prospects and infrastructure needs, while EGM Secretary General Y. Rupachandra deliberated on the critical role of media in tourism promotion.
