The Government of Manipur today joined the nationwide launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and the Mission for Atmanirbharta in Pulses, two landmark initiatives aimed at transforming India’s agricultural landscape and ensuring nutritional security.
The state-level event, organised by the Department of Agriculture at the MSFDS Auditorium, Imphal, was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Vivek Kumar Dewangan, ACS (Agriculture), and Anurag Bajpai, ACS (Textiles, Commerce & Industry). Awards and agricultural equipment were distributed to farmers during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Secretary Dr. Goel said the two flagship initiatives reflect the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership in strengthening Indian agriculture. Under the PMDDKY, 36 existing schemes across 11 ministries will be converged, focusing on the 100 least developed agricultural districts in the country.
Tamenglong District has been selected from Manipur for targeted development under the scheme. Dr. Goel urged all concerned departments—including horticulture, fisheries, and water resources—to work in close coordination to ensure the district’s progress, with implementation beginning from the upcoming Rabi season.
Meanwhile, the Mission for Atmanirbharta in Pulses, with an outlay of over ₹11,000 crore till 2030–31, seeks to enhance domestic pulse production, reduce import dependence, and promote sustainable farming practices. As part of the mission, around 88 lakh seed kits will be distributed free of cost to farmers nationwide.
Dr. Goel expressed confidence that with sustained and coordinated efforts, Manipur will play a vital role in India’s agricultural transformation.
