Manipur Journalists Continue Protest, Demand Visible Action Over Manipur Tag Tampering on MST Bus

Displaying unity and resolve, journalists from across Manipur gathered today for a peaceful sit-in protest demanding justice and accountability in the wake of the Gwaltabi incident.

The protest was organised jointly by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM), following the state government’s continued silence over the unlawful obstruction of media persons en route to Ukhrul.

Held at the Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall, the sit-in witnessed the participation of reporters, editors, photographers, and other media professionals from various districts.

Protesters held placards and banners calling for press freedom, democratic accountability, and immediate action against those responsible for the July 3 incident at Gwaltabi.

The obstruction, which prevented journalists from covering the opening of the Shirui Lily Festival, was condemned as a direct attack on the freedom of the press and the public’s right to information.

Despite repeated appeals, the Government of Manipur has neither taken visible action nor issued a formal clarification, further aggravating concerns within the journalist community.

The AMWJU and EGM reiterated their stand that any attempt to muzzle the press would be strongly resisted.

They called on the government to uphold constitutional values and act decisively to ensure such violations do not recur.
