Manipur Launches 2025 Statewide Polio Immunization Campaign

In a major step to maintain the state’s polio-free status, Manipur has kicked off the State-level Polio Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) 2025. Organized by the Directorate of Family Welfare Services in collaboration with the State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM), the program began today at the Family Welfare Complex on BT Road, Imphal.

The launch ceremony was led by Dr. N. Bino, Director of Family Welfare Services, with Additional Director Dr. Somorjit Ningombam, former RIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. Y. Mohen, and Dr. Ksh. Memcha Devi in attendance. As part of the inauguration, the dignitaries administered polio drops to children, officially starting the immunization drive, which will continue until October 14.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bino emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance, despite India being declared polio-free. “Sporadic cases in neighboring countries highlight the need for continued immunization to prevent any resurgence of the disease,” he said.

This year’s campaign targets around 316,000 children across the state through 3,167 immunization booths. Highlighting past success, Dr. Bino noted that over 90% of eligible children were vaccinated in the previous round, thanks to strong collaboration with the Education and Social Welfare Departments and active community involvement.

The SNID 2025 reflects Manipur’s ongoing commitment to public health, ensuring that every child receives vital protection against polio.
