Several Manipur legislators left for New Delhi on 4th October to meet central leaders and press for the formation of a new government in the state.
On Saturday, former Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, along with former ministers Sapam Ranjan Singh and Heikham Dingo Singh, and MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh, departed for Delhi. Additional lawmakers, including Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, former minister Govindas Konthoujam, and MLAs Kongkham Robindro, Sapam Kunjakeshwor, Thounaojam Shyamkumar, and Karam Shyam, are expected to depart on Sunday.
Speaking at Imphal International Airport, former Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh said, “Our delegation aims to highlight the pressing issues in the state, including the challenges faced by internally displaced persons and the need to reopen key highways. We hope that the Centre will take prompt action to restore stability and normalcy in Manipur.”
MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh added, “We will be meeting central leaders and relevant authorities. Our expectation is that they will listen to the people’s representatives and take steps to facilitate the formation of a government that ensures stability and development. Our purpose is to convey the aspirations of the people and press for the formation of a popular government that reflects the true mandate. We want to ensure that the democratic process is upheld and the state gets a stable government at the earliest.”
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla is already in Delhi. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and Home Secretary Ashok Kumar, have also left for the capital, though the purpose of their visit has not been disclosed.
