Imphal, March 26: Emphasising the importance of preserving traditional heritage, Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh on Thursday said that Manipur’s rich cultural and sporting legacy must be protected and promoted for future generations.
He was speaking during the observance of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv (1000 Years of Unbroken Faith), held at Heibok Mahadev in Hiyangthang, Imphal West. The event was organised by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
In his address, the minister pointed out that the state’s diverse traditions, passed down through generations, are now drawing increasing attention from across the world. He stressed that continued efforts are needed to strengthen cultural identity and ensure its relevance in modern times. He also mentioned that several initiatives aimed at promoting cultural unity, particularly in the Northeast, are being supported under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Commissioner of Art and Culture H. Gyan Prakash and Director Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh were also present at the function.
The programme featured cultural performances by teachers and students of Mahal Mukundadeva Music College, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere. Officials, artists, cultural groups, local leaders, and members of the public participated actively, ensuring the successful conduct of the event.
