Manipur Marks World Optometry Day with Vision Summit & CME 2026

Imphal, March 23: Marking World Optometry Day 2026, the Manipur Optometrist Association organised the “Manipur Optometry Vision Summit & CME 2026” at Manipur Press Club, bringing together experts and practitioners from across the eye care sector.

The programme was attended by key dignitaries from the health fraternity. State Epidemiologist under the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur, Dr. Sanasam Gopal, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Association President Kshetrimayum Ashakiran, while senior optometrist Sanayaima Konsam attended as a distinguished guest.

Speaking at the event, Ashakiran highlighted that the summit was organised in line with the global observance of World Optometry Day to emphasise the growing importance of vision care. He noted that the initiative aimed to address the expanding role of optometrists in delivering accessible and quality eye care services.

He stressed that optometrists play a crucial role in early detection, management, and prevention of vision-related disorders, particularly at the community level. In regions like Manipur, where access to specialised healthcare can be limited, their contribution is vital in bridging gaps in essential eye care delivery.

The Vision Summit and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme focused on enhancing professional knowledge, updating clinical practices, and encouraging collaboration among practitioners. Experts also highlighted emerging trends, challenges, and the importance of promoting regular eye check-ups and preventive care among the public.
