Manipur MLAs Start Returning to Imphal With Hopes of New Government on Horizon

The formation of a new popular government seems to be on the horizon in Manipur, as several BJP MLAs from the state who were in Delhi to press central leaders have started returning to Imphal with renewed hopes on Saturday.

BJP MLA Karam Shyam Singh, who arrived in Imphal today, informed reporters that the formation of the new government may happen soon, though he did not specify any fixed timeframe. During their stay in Delhi, the MLAs met BJP General Secretary B.L. Santosh and BJP National Spokesperson and NE Coordinator Sambit Patra to press for the said formation.

Among those seen at the airport were MLA K. Govindas and MLA Heikham Dinko. At least 26 BJP MLAs, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, had visited the national capital to make efforts for the installation of a popular government in Manipur.

Many speculate that if the Centre agrees and has the intention, the formation may only take place after the Bihar Assembly elections in October.
