May 9, 2025: Former RIMS Director Prof. Shanta Ahanthem, who currently serves as the Executive Director of AIIMS Mangalagiri, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Executive Director of AIIMS Bibinagar by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He officially assumed charge of his new post on Friday.
Prof. A. Shanta has become the first native from Northeast India to hold the post of Executive Director at two All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) institutions located in two different states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, at the same time.
Before his current appointment at AIIMS Mangalagiri, he served as the Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, where he played a pivotal role in advancing institutional development and enhancing healthcare delivery in the region. He also held important administrative and academic positions at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, where he made significant contributions to tertiary care services and postgraduate medical education.
