“Manipur is not normal—until the last displaced family finds their way home and there is free movement,” declared Inner Manipur MP Dr. Akoijam Bimol, as he broke his silence in a charged press briefing at his residence in Imphal today.
He said, “Until these two are satisfied, the issue is still alive.”
Bimol unleashed a scathing critique of the Central Government’s handling of the Manipur conflict.
Bimol tore into the government’s “partisan approach” to disarmament, warning that the crackdown on armed groups risks being perceived as a selective operation that targets specific communities.
With public trust waning and clarity on SoO agreements still lacking, he questioned why Parliament was denied the opportunity to even debate the issue under the pretext of “national security.”
The MP also expressed personal sorrow and political shame that none of Manipur’s three Members of Parliament, himself included, were allowed to speak when President’s Rule in the state was tabled.
“It’s not just strange, it’s outrageous,” he said, pointing to the total erasure of voices from Manipur in the very chambers meant to represent them.
He saved some of his sharpest words for Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of reducing Manipur’s conflict to a mere “inherent societal problem.”
Bimol countered, “Why then has the Government of India failed to protect the lives and liberties of the people?”
With this explosive statement, Bimol has thrown down the gauntlet, not just to the Centre, but to the national conscience, demanding recognition, responsibility, and above all, justice for Manipur.
