Manipur Observes Irawat Day; Manipur Guv Heads State-Level Observance in Irawat Square

On the birth anniversary of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat Day, the state of Manipur paid rich tributes, headed by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Former CM N. Biren Singh, Speaker of Manipur State Assembly, MLAs, and officials of the State Government at Irawat Square in Lilashing Khongnangkhong of Thangmeiband in Imphal West district of Manipur on Tuesday.

The Manipur Governor A.K. Bhalla, in his social media post, said Irawat is a revered leader, “remembered as a visionary, social reformer, and freedom fighter. Jananeta Hijam Irawat’s steadfast pursuit of justice and equality remains a cornerstone of Manipur’s history.”

Former Manipur CM N. Biren Singh wrote, “a moment to reflect on the enduring legacy of one of our most courageous and progressive leaders.”

The former CM said the struggle Irawat waged was not just of his time; it is a continuing call to action for us all. He appealed to the people to draw inspiration from his vision to build a Manipur that is inclusive, equitable, and united in purpose.
