In response to a recent report of arson and vandalism in the Kazanga-Valpabung village areas, the Manipur Police have apprehended three individuals believed to be involved in the incident. The accused were subsequently produced before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Kangpokpi and have been remanded to five days of police custody.
Authorities have stated that every possible effort is being made to restore peace and maintain normalcy in the affected region. The public has been urged not to fall prey to misinformation campaigns circulating on social media, as officials continue to investigate the situation.
On April 3, residents of Tumuyon Khullen village had alleged that a group of 30 to 40 individuals, believed to be Kuki volunteers, set fire to houses in Kazanga, a revenue village inhabited by the Maram Naga tribe. The villagers accused the suspected Kuki volunteers from the nearby Valpabung village of destroying and burning down the homes, with reports indicating that they were armed with knives and firearms during the attack.
Sources from Kazanga village reported that more than 10 houses were burned to the ground, resulting in the destruction of property worth over Rs. 20 lakh. The authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the incident and ensure justice for the victims.
