Feb. 5, 2025: As Manipur gradually recovers from ethnic strife, the state is set to celebrate the second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF)-2025 from February 6 to 10. The festival aims to promote the art of cinema and establish Manipur as a strategic hub for independent filmmaking.
Unlike its previous edition, the 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) will feature uncensored international films. A total of 54 films will be screened during the five-day event, with 38 being international titles. The festival will also include a Competition Section featuring categories such as International Competition Fiction, International Competition Non-Fiction, North-East Currents, World Lenses, Remastered: The Light of Manipuri Cinema, Eikhoigi Montage, and Manipur Matinee.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on Wednesday, festival director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum highlighted the significance of the event, stating that it will provide a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work to a diverse audience. The selected films will be screened at five separate theatres across the state.
The festival will be inaugurated by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at the City Convention Centre, while Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla will participate in the closing ceremony. The event is supported by various governmental and cultural organizations and will also include industry-focused programs aimed at fostering collaborations and discussions within the filmmaking community.
With its commitment to celebrating cinematic excellence, EIIFF-2025 is expected to further solidify Manipur’s growing reputation as a significant player in the global film industry.
