Manipur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to export 20 metric tonnes of its indigenous aromatic Chak-Hao rice — both black and white varieties — to Japan. The MoU was formalized during the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The agreement was facilitated by APEDA officials and Manipur Agriculture Director Peter Salam between M/S Shree Ganjanan Industries, Nizamabad, and M/S Chak-Hao Poireiton Organic Farmer Producer Company Ltd., Imphal West.
At the conference, additional export deals worth ₹4 crore were also finalized for Manipur’s black and white Chak-Hao with buyers.
Two farmers from Manipur — Y. Bimolchandra Singh and Kh. Shamushaba Singh — were felicitated for promoting Chak-Hao cultivation and expanding its market reach. Director Peter Salam also participated as a panelist in a session on “Value Addition in Rice,” showcasing Chak-Hao as a premium organic product and highlighting value-added innovations.
