Three young taekwondo players from Haoreibi brought laurels to Manipur by winning gold medals at the 9th India TIA Open International Taekwondo Championships, held in Kolkata from December 21 to 23, 2025.
In the Sub-Junior Under-7 Years category, Sharungbam Melemnganba, son of Sharungbam Shaolin (Naocha) and Sharungbam Sapana Haoreibi of Awang Leikai, clinched the gold medal after defeating his opponent with an impressive performance.
Adding to the pride, Yumnam Malemnganba (57 kg category), son of Yumnam Ingobi Singh and Yumnam Tilotama, and Khumanthem Sur Singh (35 kg category), son of Kh. Indramani Singh and Kh. Romita Haoreibi of Makha Leikai, also secured gold medals in their respective weight categories.
On their return, the medalists were warmly accorded a grand reception at Imphal Airport by members of Haoreibi Apunba Lup (HAL) and Edudhou Pakhangba Thougal Lup, amid cheers and celebrations.
The organisations expressed pride in the achievers and wished them continued success, hoping they would grow into future champions and bring further recognition to Manipur and the country.
