Manipur is set to introduce its first Mechanized Rotary Parking units, with one facility nearing completion at Thangal Bazar within Khwairamband Bazar, opposite Nagamapal Kangjabi, in the heart of Imphal.
The project is being implemented by Imphal Smart City Limited (ISCL) in collaboration with L.T. Elevators Limited, Kolkata. Each mechanized parking unit will be equipped with electronically controlled systems (ECS) and will have the capacity to accommodate 42 cars and 70 two-wheelers.
Speaking on the project, Th. Harikumar, Chief Executive Officer of ISCL, said that three more such units are planned. Two will be constructed on the northern and southern sides of the new Manipur Secretariat Building at Mantripukhri, while another unit will come up at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
According to Harikumar, the target is to complete all four units by May this year. Once operational, the facilities will collectively provide parking space for 168 cars and 280 two-wheelers.
Each unit is estimated to cost Rs 8.42 crore, with the total project cost amounting to Rs 33.65 crore. With the revised completion timeline set for May, ISCL expressed optimism that the mechanized parking facilities will play a crucial role in easing traffic congestion in Imphal and improving pedestrian movement in busy commercial and institutional areas of the city.
