Manipur to Observe Martyrs’ Day Tomorrow in Honor of Mahatma Gandhi

Jan. 29, 2025: Manipur is set to observe Martyrs’ Day tomorrow, January 30, from 10:10 AM to 11:04 AM, to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

The event will take place at the Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal, with the Governor serving as the Chief Guest and the Chief Minister presiding over the function as President. Other state government dignitaries will also attend.

A notification issued by Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Home), outlined the schedule for the observance. Three bhajans will be sung between 10:10 AM and 10:51 AM:

  • “Sumiran Karle Mere Mana”
  • “Vaishnav Jana To Tene”
  • “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram”

A siren will be sounded from 10:59 AM to 11:00 AM to signal a two-minute silence, during which all vehicles along highways and in campus areas will come to a standstill.

Citizens are requested to observe the silence and remain standing as a mark of respect. A second siren will be sounded from 11:02 AM to 11:03 AM to mark the end of the silence.

Additionally, all government employees working within the Imphal Municipal area, including Lamphelpat, are requested to be present at Gandhi Memorial Hall by 10:00 AM and remain until the conclusion of the event.
