March 10, 2025 : Manipur University, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-CICFR), Bhimtal, inaugurated the Mahseer Hatchery & Freshwater Ichthyology and Sustainable Aquaculture (FISA) Laboratory today at the university’s auditorium.
The prestigious event was graced by Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, as the Chief Guest. Notable dignitaries who attended as Guests of Honour included Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Bijay Kumar Behera, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad; and Dr. Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal.
The inauguration was presided over by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, who emphasized the significance of the initiative in promoting sustainable aquaculture and fisheries research in the region.
The newly established Mahseer Hatchery & FISA Laboratory is expected to play a crucial role in advancing research, conservation, and sustainable fish farming, particularly benefiting the fisheries sector in Manipur and the Northeast.
The event concluded with a commitment to strengthening scientific collaboration and enhancing fisheries development in the state.
