Manipur University Hosts Half Marathon to Mark National Sports Day

The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS), Manipur University, organized a Half Marathon today as part of the National Sports Day 2025 celebrations.

The run, held in collaboration with the Fit India Campaign Committee, Fit India Club, and the NSS Cell of the University, began at 7 a.m. from the Traffic Island, Canchipur, under the theme “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein!”

The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Registrar Prof. M. Premjit Singh, and several faculty members and dignitaries, who served as presidium members.

Prof. L. Thambal Singh, Head of PESS, welcomed the gathering and stressed that sports are about participation and spirit rather than victory.

Prof. Lokendra Singh, while flagging off the marathon, remarked that the race symbolized teamwork, resilience, and self-discipline, besides offering immense health benefits.

In the Men’s Category, Pourimyibe Pame won gold, followed by Elangbam Rakesh Singh with silver and Yathem Zimik with bronze. In the Women’s Category, Irom Bijaya Devi bagged gold, Umelly Mangshatabam silver, and Athinin Davis bronze.

The program concluded with prize distribution by the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and dignitaries.
