Feb 27, 2025: In what could be observed as a clarion call for peace, Manipur evidently witnessed the highest number of weapons being surrendered to security forces on Thursday during this ongoing conflict that started on May 3, 2023.
‘Arambai Tenggol’ alone handed over a total of 246 weapons to high-ranking police officials at the 1st MR campus in Imphal, and 61 other weapons were also surrendered at other places in both the hills and valley districts of Manipur, bringing the total to 307 weapons.
This development comes after Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on the 20th of February, asked the people to surrender looted and illegally held weapons within seven days, with the assurance of no punitive action if done within the given time. AT’s decision to hand over the weapons came two days after meeting the Manipur Governor on the 25th of February with a four-delegate leader of AT.
After the event at 1st MR, the Commissioner of CMP (Central Military Police) of ‘Arambai Tenggol,’ Munindro Magang, informed the media that today’s decision was reached after the government acknowledged that ‘No separate administration in the state will be accepted.’ AT also agreed to work in coordination with the police to bring about peace and development and asked the governor to ensure safety and security for those in peripheral areas through state and central security forces, as well as grant general amnesty to village volunteers, including members of ‘Arambai Tenggol.’
The AT CMP also informed that if the Kuki continued attacks after this, then ‘Arambai Tenggol’ would make every possible effort to retaliate, and the government should accept that.
AT also stated that while meeting with the governor, they also discussed the implementation of NRC and the completion of border fencing, among other issues.
