In an anti-narcotics operation, officials of Guwahati Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) today seized 44 packets of cannabis (ganja), weighing a total of 65.5 kilograms, from four individuals from Manipur, travelling on the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, the GRPS team carried out a thorough check on Train No. 12423 DN at Platform No. 1 of Guwahati Railway Station, leading to the recovery and arrest.
The four apprehended individuals, all hailing from Manipur, had boarded the train from Dimapur Railway Station with the consignment reportedly bound for New Delhi.
The individuals have been identified as Nongthombam Landson Singh, aged 22, a resident of Wankhei Yumlembam Leikai in Imphal East; Raireikhan Tungshang, aged 25, from Langdang village in Ukhrul district; James Kamei, also 25, of Namdulong in Imphal East; and Pukhrambam Kanta Singh, aged 24, from Waheng Khuman Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district.
Legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been initiated, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins and intended recipients of the consignment.
