March 12, 2025: Another proud moment for Manipur! The shining shuttler from the state, Priya Konjengbam, has become the first woman from the entire NE region to qualify for the prestigious All England Badminton Championship 2025.
The first women’s doubles player from Manipur will play alongside Shruti Mishra as her doubles partner in the tournament, which is being held at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena in England from March 11 to 16, 2025.
They are set to play against the Korean pair, Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee, who are currently leading the women’s doubles world rankings.
Priya, now a rising star in Indian badminton, hails from the tiny village named Moirang Phairembam Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district and played a crucial role in India’s historic victory at the Asian Badminton Women’s Team Championship 2024 in Malaysia, held from February 12 to 18. The team defeated Thailand 3-2 in a thrilling final to secure the title for the first time in history.
