March 13, 2025: Manipur’s cricket sensation, Bishworjit Konthoujam, has achieved a historic milestone by signing with Tynemouth Cricket Club under the England Cricket Board (ECB).
This landmark move makes him the first cricketer from Manipur to join an English club, signaling a new era in his career and a proud moment for Manipur cricket.
Son of Konthoujam Rajendro and Konthoujam Shama Devi from Patsoi Part IV, Bishworjit has been a pivotal figure in Manipur’s domestic cricket scene since his debut in 2018.
Known for his stellar performances in state, zonal, List A, T20, and first-class cricket, he emerged as Manipur’s highest wicket-taker in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season with an impressive 30 wickets in eight matches, securing a spot among the top ten wicket-takers nationally.
In the 2023-24 season, Bishworjit led Manipur’s bowling attack in both the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker. His exceptional tally of 42 wickets across formats in the 2024-25 season reaffirmed his prowess.
