Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand rushed to Imphal Airport to see off his colleague, BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte of Thajon AC, who was injured and left crippled in an attack during the peak of the Manipur violence, before he was airlifted for further advanced treatment to Delhi on Sunday afternoon.
When Thajon MLA Vungzagin Valte saw CM Khemchand at the airport while being taken inside the ambulance before departure, the MLA slowly extended his right hand towards the Chief Minister to grasp his hand. Both leaders held hands tightly after a long time, and the CM wished him an early recovery and a return to active public service.
The Chief Minister was joined by MLA T. Robindro Singh of Thanga and MLA S. Premchandra of Kumbi AC. MLA T. Robindro Singh accompanied the injured MLA Vungzagin Valte from Phoujakhai Ikhai of Bishnupur district to Imphal Airport.
Due to the attack, which was reported to have taken place in the Nagamapal area of Imphal, MLA Vungzagin Valte spent nearly two years in Delhi for treatment. He has not fully recovered and continues to face difficulty in speaking, along with speech delay, and uses a wheelchair.
MLA T. Robindro Singh noted that the airlift ambulance was arranged on humanitarian grounds, rising above political and community divisions. He added that it reflects the state government’s continued focus on peace, reconciliation, and inclusive democratic engagement, as evidenced during the recent Assembly session.
