A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going viral on social media — and what’s making headlines is the presence of a female officer in his elite security detail. For the first time in history, a woman has joined the Special Protection Group (SPG), the country’s most prestigious force safeguarding the Prime Minister.
The officer is Inspector (GD) Adaso Kapesa, from Kaibi village in Senapati district, Manipur. Belonging to the Mao community, Adaso earlier served with the 55th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Pithoragarh, where her exceptional performance led to her selection for SPG’s extremely tough commando training. Clearing the rigorous course, she has now created history as the first female commando in PM Modi’s security team.
Her achievement has sparked immense pride in Manipur and across the Northeast. Adaso’s journey from the hills of Senapati to India’s highest security echelon stands as a shining example of courage, discipline, and women’s empowerment in the nation’s armed forces.
