Jan. 29, 2025 : Manipur’s renowned multifaceted actor-cum-director Diya Khwairakpam breathed his last in the early hours of today (Wednesday) morning at his residence in Yumnam Leikai. Many of his fans took to social media to express their grief.
Born in November 1960, the 58-year-old actor from Manipur forayed into Manipuri celluloid films in 1989, making his debut as the lead actor in Kombirei, which became a blockbuster and won high public accolades after years of dedication to theater. Diya is the only Manipuri actor who has played the lead role in as many as 18 Manipuri celluloid films, with Leibak being his last.
Apart from his acting career, he directed nearly 30 Manipuri digital films. He directed the Manipuri digital film Phairenthagi Angaoba Leichil for the first time and also took part in many telefilms.
Diya was the youngest son among nine siblings (four sons and five daughters) born to Khwairakpam Momon and Khwairakpam Ongbi Bormani of Yumnam Leikai, Imphal West.
